Our Record for Last Sunday, October 7, 2007

Attendance 35                                               Contribution $1,073.00

Please remember the following in your prayers.

Preston Reynolds, Ken’s father, continues to recuperate.

Cordell Kiefer continues to improve.

Alice Wallace seems to be doing better.

Gail Evans is doing very well after her liver transplant, but still has to be sure to take care of herself.  As always, Gail never complains.

Roy Harris now surgery scheduled for November 28th.  He is not looking forward to it.  Says he is doing better.  Says if he gets much better he may postpone surgery.  Keep Roy in your prayers.

Joy Brawner continues to improve after breaking her knee cap.  She is able to get around pretty well with the aid of her walker.

As you know, we have a long list of those we need to continue to remember because of various long term problems:

Albert and Edith Anthony, Annie Burgess and Virginia Stephens are all experiencing difficulty getting around, but we are thankful that all of our older citizens are still able to make it to some of the services; some are able to be here more than others.

Keep all of these in your prayers

Don’t forget to pray for the Church.  Please pray for me as your preacher, Dale and me as your elders, Glenn and Roy as your deacons, and Ken and Elisha Reynolds as our teachers.

Don’t forget to pray for America.  Thank God for keeping us safe from our enemies.   Remember to pray for our troupes.  I’m sure most of you are aware that Ryan Ellis has joined the Marines and is in boot camp.  Pray for our President that he will have courage to stand for what is right and that his life will be protected.  Pray that good men will be elected to office next year.

October birthdays—this week—the week of birthdays!

Next Saturday, the Wallace family will be celebrating “October Birthdays,”—9 in all.  Of course, the one you know is Alice, Carolyn’s mother.  If you have looked at your October calendar, you’ll notice four birthdays this week: Abby Harris (15th), Alice Wallace (17th), Elisia Reynolds(18), and LaVoyce Bramhall (19).

Our Congratulations to Terry Jones and Ellen O’Neill

Our congratulations to Terry Jones and Ellen O’Neill on their wedding this past Tuesday.  I know that was the plan, so I’m assuming all went according to plan.  We wish for them the very best as they begin the lives together as husband and wife.

Web page problems.

Wednesday night I found that some of you do visit my webpage on a rather regular basis.  Those of you who do, discovered that my webpage had turned into a short message of a few lines of Chinese.  I decided enough was enough, and I changed web servers.  I thought I had made all the changes needed when I saw my web page changed to “under construction.”  Later Saturday, I got it back up and running and I’m hoping for much better and more dependable service.  I apologize for any inconvenience that this caused while in a state of being repaired.

Dear Brethren,

Thank you for the gift of $100.00 we received in August. It is always encouraging to receive such generous gifts, but it is especially so during the summer months when so many are out of pocket with vacations and such. So, thank you for your thoughtfulness, as well as for your gift.

With your partnership, the work on our new station is progressing well. I must admit that our American mindset - getting it done yesterday - does not compute when dealing with the third-world mindset. Everything takes just a little longer.

Construction on several of the buildings will soon be completed. When the house for the staff is completed Kevin and Nancy Chambers will move into that. This will make it easier in several ways, but one of the most important is that it will allow them to live onsite. As it is now, they must travel several miles.

The workers that Kevin hired are all native to the area. They take pride in their work and are most conscientious. When Kevin and Nancy returned from a short visit to the states, every worker showed up to begin work and all of the equipment and supplies had been kept safe. You may remember my saying that while Kevin and Nancy were away we were giving the workers an opportunity to take English classes  Their teacher reported to Kevin that most Of those who, signed up did not miss a day.

Thank you again for your great support. Your gifts and your prayers are essential.

Why Do I Need to Attend Church?

I.        What is the history of a day off for worship?

A.     The first day off was Saturday, the Sabbath Day.

1.       God set it apart as a holy day.

2.       It included a holy meeting.  (Exo 20:11 NIV)

3.       It included a holy meeting. (Lev 23:3 NKJV)  .

C.     But what about Sunday?

1.       Is it correct to call it the “Christian Sabbath”?

a.       The Sabbath is the seventh day, and always has been.

b.       The Sabbath had strict rules that were strictly enforced.  (Num 15:32-36 NKJV)

2.       Why do we worship on Sunday?

a.       Jesus rose from the grave on the first day of the week.  (Mark 16:2 NKJV)  .

b.       The first “gospel sermon” was preached on Pentecost which was Sunday.

c.       The disciples gathered to break bread on Sunday.  (Acts 20:7 NKJV)  .

d.       The offering was taken on the first day of the week.  (1 Cor 16:1-2 NKJV)

3.       What else can be said about the Sabbath?

a.       Paul said we were not to be judged according to Sabbaths.  (Col 2:16-17 NKJV)

b.       He wrote of some freedom in observing days in general.  (Rom 14:5-6 NKJV)

II.     What are the aspects of our worship service?

1.       Our songs are to be to God.

2.       Our songs and our prayers need to be with understanding.  (Eph 5:19 NKJV)

a.       Our singing to God may not be with the most beautiful voice.

We are to be making melody in your heart to the Lord,

3.       Our singing is also to be to each other. (Eph 5:19) (Col 3:16)

a.       We cannot admonish one another if we are not together.

b.      When we come together, it should be of mutual benefit to each other as we worship God.

4.      Our songs and our prayers need to be with understanding.  (1 Cor 14:15-16 NKJV)

a.       Do we really mean the words we are singing?

b.       Do we understand what we are singing?
