Those We Need to Remember

Alice Wallace, is continuing her recovery.  She is continuing her celeation therapy which seems to be helping.
Let me get back in the routine of things, and I will try to get our list updated in a better way.
Cordell Kiefer continues to cause the Kiefer’s concern.  Remember this family in your prayers.
Harley is doing well recovering surgery.  Instructions he is still to follow for about three more weeks:  Don’t over do it!

Business Meeting/Pizza This evening

We plan to have a business meeting after church this evening. There will be Pizza for all.  We will pay for the Pizza, but we will provide a “kitty” where you can contribute if you would like to pay for your meal – estimated cost.
We have received notice from the Johnson County Tax Assessor that we must adopt a set of bylaws which state what will happen to our property if we were to disband.  There is also the question as to whether or not we should incorporate.
Some of you are aware of other needs.  We have one A/C unit that has been out for two or three years.  We have been blessed with not having extremely high summer temperatures, at least not on days when we had large numbers present.  So there are some financial considerations:

  1. Replace the non-working AC unit

  2. Purchase a mounted projector and computer to replace the present overhead projector/transparency system

  3. Do repairs to our foundation

  4. Consider helping the Cameroon work with additional funds.

  5. Increasing our budget to add to our building fund.

We may not make final decisions on all of these, but we need to at least begin the planning process, and decide on as much as possible.

Harley expresses Thanks

Thanks to all of you for your prayers, you cards, your expressions of concern and support during my recent surgery.

I go for a checkup tomorrow, but everything appears to be fine.
Let me also express my thanks to Ken Reynolds and Glenn Kiefer for speaking in my place last Sunday.  I was able to attend and appreciate Glenn’s remarks as he touched on our political responsibilities:  Very timely remarks!
I was not able to attend Sunday morning, but I understand that Ken did a great job Sunday morning as well.  My thanks again, to Ken and Glenn for stepping in and taking care of the presentations for both assemblies.

“Howdy” from Jim Corner

Friday, February 10, 2006   10:45pm-3:45pm CST
Dear All:
The nature of the scheduling of the seminar is that I usually get to bed at a decent hour as compared to the campaigns.  Tonight, however, will be a different story.  That is OK, however, as tomorrow will be a relatively easy travel day.
You need to pray for Lori Sutton.  She led Richard and I astray tonight.  She was adamant that we HAD to go and get some ice cream.  I tried to talk to her about the danger of saturated fat and the horrors of clogged arteries but she would have nothing of it.  To keep peace in the team,  we hesitantly acquiesced  (I love spell checkers because you can misspelll a word like acquiesce and simply spell check it).  At any rate, I forced down 2 - 2 dip cones. I hope that I never have to live through an experience like that again.  Scratch that last sentence!
Day began as all others.  Went down to Richard's to find out how he was and he was much improved and continued to feel better as the day wore on.  Still not 100% but 100% better than yesterday.  Thanks for all of your prayers on his behalf.  Went to the church hall but I had to go later than Richard and Lori.  Someone in my address book sent me an attachment that took forever to download.  Will mention no names but remind you that I am working with a modem that races at the speed of 9.6!  If you know anything about that number, you understand that 'races' and it have nothing in common.  Earlier Louis Bassay had come by for a visit.  He will work with the preparation of the churches for the October campaign.  I am going to use him more and more to take more work off of Jean Claude.  Richard's class went well.  As with any group, some do better than others.  There overall grasp of the material was good.  By the way; Richard had 28, Lori 25 and I had 54.  Our averages for the week were 29 men, 22 women and 49 in the afternoon.  Those are slightly higher than last year.  Not dramatic but we are still thankful.  During the closing prayer tonight the brother prayed that over the past 10 years that we have been working; Satan has tried to hinder our work but 'You have turned hindrance into progress'.

How Does One Become a Christian?
  I.  Let’s consider Jesus answer to Nicodemus  (John 3:1-6 NKJV)
A.  What does it mean to be born again?
1.   It means to born of water -- That’s baptism -- being immersed -- placed under water.
B.  Jesus meant a change on the inside with evidence of the change on the outside.  (John 3:7-8 NKJV
1.  There needs to be a changed life on the outside to witness to the change on the inside.
2.  The changed life comes about because of true repentance.  (2 Cor 7:10 NKJV)
3.  Peter also spoke of the need of change--the need of repentance.  (Acts 3:19 NKJV)
II.  Baptism has two very important parts as they merge together to be true baptism.
A.  There must be the repentance and the willingness to change our lives and to do God's will.   (of the Spirit)  (John 3:5).
B.  There must be the willingness to be baptized in water.
1.  Paul speaks of baptism as a burial.  (Rom 6:1-6 NKJV)
C.  Baptism is a burial, but how did we die?
1.  We die voluntarily (Acts 3:19 NKJV)   (2 Cor 7:10)
2.  It doesn’t mean that we will live a perfect life and never sin.   1 John 1:8
3.  It doesn’t mean that we are to be unconcerned about sinning since we cannot be perfect.   (1 John 1:6 )
4. Being baptized is publicly proclaiming our desire to be a Christian and to live the Christian life.
III.  Once baptized, we are “raised to walk in newness of life.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
A.  What kind of new life are we talking about? (Eph 4:22-32)
B.  Jesus wants a committed life -- Revelation 3:16.
1.  I’ve often heard coaches say they want their players to give 110%.  -- As a math teacher, that always bothered me since 100% is absolutely all you have.
2.  The Lord wants 100%-- He wants our all--He wants our commitment.
